Pinewood Derby

"If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionhip of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in." ~ Rachel Carson

Jacob called to see if he could come up and spend a night, so Grandpa Ray could help him build his car for the Pinewood Derby.  I'm pretty sure Ray had just as much fun, if not more than Jacob playing with the cool tools.

After they had shaped and sanded, shaped and sanded some more, and sanded one last time, Jacob got busy and painted it . . . . . .

. . .silver with flames on the side
. . . it looks like a SHARK!
The competition was fierce that night, but Jacob's car did well!
He didn't have the fastest car, but it still did well and he did get the Award for the "Coolest Design!"
Jacob was also in charge of presenting the colors and retiring the colors.
A job well done, Jacob, we're proud of you!

I remember the days. The fun never ends. That is good that Grandpa could share in the fun.
